The Decay Of Ancient Civilization And Mohammed And...

Introduction There have been several, non- definitive reasons attributed to the decline/ fall/ end of antiquity i.e. the Greco- Roman world. The purpose of this essay is to outline the several reasons that led to the decline. The essay attends to two essays, namely The Decay of Ancient Civilization and Mohammed and Charlemagne by Michael Rostovtzeff and Henri Pirenne, respectively to reason the end of antiquity and the beginning of middle ages. The essay is divided into two sections and discusses the reasons provided by Michael Rostovtzeff, followed by the reasons provided by Henri Pirenne. In the process of summarizing, the essay also lays down commonalities between the possible causes as discussed by the two historians and any differences in their reasons. The Decay of Ancient Civilization by Michael Rostovtzeff Michael Rostovtzeff, unlike Pirenne, denies the direct continuation of the Greco-Roman world and discusses several reasons for the above. Rostovtzeff discusses four primary reasons for the fall and decline of antiquity. The four primary reasons are political, social and economic, intellectual, and spiritual. The remaining section on Rostovtzeff will discuss the reasons in detail, which follows: Political: In his discussion of the political reasons behind the decline of the ancient world, Rostovtzeff denies the class war as the only reason for the decline of antiquity. He also negates the idea of a single, better race that over came the Greco-Roman world.

Should Marijuana Be Legalized - 926 Words

The decision whether to legalize marijuana, the third most popular drug in America is still a very debatable issue today. Some supporting arguments for legalizing marijuana include that the drug is not any more harmful than alcohol or tobacco if used in moderation, there are medical benefits of certain use, police and court systems would be freed up, it would create a source of additional tax revenues, the FDA could regulate quality and safety, less people would be subject to lifelong criminal behavior due to arrests associated with marijuana that trap people in the system, and the plant also has several industrial/commercial uses, over 25,000 products can be made from crop. Opposing arguments include that marijuana is a stepping stone/gateway to harder drugs eg. heroin and cocaine, driving and other dangers would increase, and that it would increase the chance of kids gaining access to the drug at an early age (Messerli, 1). To go back into a little bit of marijuana s history, it wasn t until the 1920 s that marijuana smoking became a noticeable occurrence. Many marijuana establishments started to emerge in major cities and were not a concern to authorities at that time, marijuana was not illegal and there seemed to be no societal threat as there was no disturbance to the community from people using marijuana. However, by the end of the 1920 s and early 1930 s the perception of marijuana usage changed. How Stalin Became a Leader of Russia Free Essays

How and why did Stalin win to be the leader of Russia? Stalin’s manipulative personality Joseph Stalin was known to have a manipulative personality. He was persuasive, educated, determined however also arrogant (due to his role as General Sectary). Also Lenin is rude as Lenin said in his testament â€Å"Stalin is too rude†. We will write a custom essay sample on How Stalin Became a Leader of Russia or any similar topic only for you Order Now After Lenin died during the struggle for power Stalin was reasonably quiet at the beginning. This makes him sly and sneaky because we get the impression he is up to no good. Stalin also lied about the date of Lenin’s funeral to Trotsky. This meant that Trotsky didn’t ttend the funeral which made Trotsky look really bad and disrespectful. Lying about the funeral date makes Stalin look cunning and his personality doesn’t seem like a nice person. However these factors aided him to become future leader of Russia. Stalin’s choices of policies (NEP and socialism in one country) During the beginning of the struggle for power after Lenin died Stalin formed an alliance with Zinoviev and Kamenev in 1923, this was purely to keep Trotsky out of power. However in early 1925 Zinoviev and Kamenev split from Stalin, he Joined with Bukharin instead because Stalin said he was in favour of NEP. Zinoviev and Kamenev were removed from the party because they were against NEP. However in 1928 Stalin ended his alliance with Bukharin and rejected NEP; he had more communist ideas which appealed to young communist followers which helped him win the vote in 1929 which meant he won and became the leader of Russia. During the beginning of the struggle for power he was neither left not right wing (of communist ideas, all members of communism were left wing) – Stalin stayed in the middle. By doing this he didn’t seem like a threat to anyone as he slowly crept up to have power. Stalin’s use of General Sectary Stalin being General Sectary he was able to promote his followers but also demote and even fire people who opposed him. In my opinion without his General Sectary post many of his rivals who were in the power struggle wouldVe defeated Stalin early on. He allied himself with whoever seemed strongest at that point and because he was General Sectary he had authority to spy on people using secret police and another murder not Just the person who had opposed him, but also their whole family. Lenin almost predicted that Stalin’s role of General Sectary is a bad thing because he has too much power â€Å"Stalin has unlimited authority concentrated in his ands† Also as he was General Sectary this made him popular with the communist followers because he had a big role in the communist party. Stalin’s use of Lenin’s legacy Betore Lenin died ne nad written a testament about Stalin, Trotsky, Bukharin, Zinoviev and Kamenev. In the testament Lenin hadn’t said any good things about Stalin. Lenin said negative things such as â€Å"l am not sure whether Stalin will always be capable of using that authority with sufficient caution† and as seen in future events Stalin didn’t use his role of General Sectary properly, he used it to promote his followers and fire his opponents. He also used it as an excuse to murder which isn’t acceptable. l suggest the comrades think about a way of removing Stalin from that post and appointing another man in his stead being more tolerant, more loyal, more polite, and more considerate to the comrades† Lenin suggested that Stalin should be removed from his General Sectary post, if he was he may have not become leader of Russia at all? However Stalin kept his post as General Sectary. All of the members of the communist party decided to keep Lenin’s testament a secret because Lenin had said bad things about all of them so it would be a better idea not to tell the public. At Lenin’s funeral Stalin spoke about Lenin which is strange, because Lenin and Stalin never got along. Stalin had an argument with Lenin’s wife before Lenin had died. Because Stalin had spoken at Lenin’s funeral this makes people respect Stalin more, and he gained more popularity. Stalin’s opponent’s weaknesses TROTSKY In Lenin’s testament Lenin described Trotsky with outstanding ability, very able and intelligent. However he was very arrogant and there was an element of mistrust. Trotsky decided to stay on his own during 1923-24 which also made him weaker. He ecame an enemy of Stalin and Stalin lied to him about the date of Lenin’s funeral which then meant Trotsky was unable to turn up which made him very unpopular. He was also very ill which meant that he missed important meetings. BUKHARIN Lenin described Bukharin as very popular and likeable. However he wasn’t fully communist and his commitment must be questioned. During 1923-24 Bukharin was in the right wing (of communist ideas) but he didn’t play a big role in the struggle for power. However he teamed up with Stalin during 1925. Bukharin became an enemy of Stalin in 1928 and delayed Bukharin’s plane so he missed an important meeting. However he was still considered the favourite of the party until he arranged a secret meeting with Zinoviev and Kamenev, Stalin found out and told everyone so Bukharin became unpopular because people couldn’t trust him which weakened him greatly. ZINOVIEV AND KAMENEV Zinoviev and Kamenev were described as too cautious because they didn’t play a big role in the October revolution. This means that their commitment must be questioned. They allied with Stalin very early on in 1923 however they ended their alliance with Stalin at the end of 1924 because they no longer wanted NEP and ntended to become more industrialised. However they became unpopular because they challenged Bukharin’s authority in 1927 (this is when Stalin and Bukharin were together). A vote proved this which made them weaker. They were never re-elected after that vote and feared Stalin and Bukharin more than Trotsky. However they made an alliance with Trotsky and were in favour of left wing communism (world revolution). Because of this the three of them were expelled from the party. This weakened them the most, they were re-admitted after they publicly apologised but Stalin only used Zinoviev and Kamenev for their tactics. A world without bees free essay sample

A world without bees: what is causing pollinator declines in the Northern hemisphere and what are the potential implications for South Africa? † The decline of all major pollinators in the Northern Hemisphere, such as bats, butterflies and especially bees are likely to result in negative implications around the globe including South Africa. Bees are the most commonly chosen pollinators around the globe although there are many other capable insects. As early as the 1900’s, colony collapses have occurred and have been documented in the Northern hemisphere. From 1972 there has been a dramatic increase in the number of colony collapses and a very significant decline in the number of maintained colonies. These statistics suggest that an economic downfall may soon take place and there shall be very negative impacts on the biodiversity and food sources if no preventative actions are taken. Bees are vital contributors to pollination. Pollination is the transfer of male pollen to the stigma, which is the female part of the flower, with this fertilization takes place. This natural ecosystem service is vital for human societies and is the first step in having successful seed and fruit production by a plant. Once a plant has been successfully pollinated and fertilization has taken place, fruit and seeds develop and grow. Bees play an important role of pollinating flowers and plants. It is estimated that one third of Human food supply depends of pollination, most of which is accomplished by bees. Pollinators, such as bees, provide ecosystems and society with food sources such as seed crops, fruit, vegetables and nuts. The common Honeybee pollinates on average 130 crops alone. If an increase of Colony Collapse disorder continues and we do not take preventative actions soon, then essential food product supplies will decrease and in turn, the price of these products will increase. As an explanation to Colony Collapse Disorder, around the world bees have been disappearing rapidly, in some instances beekeepers have lost 90-95% of their hive. Colony Collapse disorder (CCD) was first noticed in the US whereby entire bee colonies simply died out with unexplainable circumstances. In the winter of 2006/2007 alone, US lost approximately more than a quarter of their 2, 4 million bee colonies, accounting to tens of billions of bees died out due to CCD. This loss resulted in an 8 to 12 Billion dollar effect on US agricultural economy. These current events in pollinator decline indicate that a sixth major extinction of biological diversity will soon take place. Many different reasons for this pollinator decline have been put forward but none have been proven to be a definite cause. Some have been proven to be contributory factors, such as insecticides, pesticides, genetically modified crops, disease, loss/destruction of habitat, pollution and over-harvesting. It is strongly believed that the primary contributor to this significant decline in bee colonies around the globe is a result of the wide spread use of pesticides and insecticides. These insecticides, used as commercial agrochemicals, go through very thorough testing procedures to ensure that they will not cause a harmful effect on the environment. However the information that these safety assessments reveal more often than not originate from the very companies that manufacture and sell these chemicals. For years various companies have been reporting that their products are perfectly safe for use in flowers that rely on bee pollination, and claim that their products would have no harmful effect on bee colonies. Independent scientists have published their research and are in common agreement that the results suggest otherwise. It has been identified that the main insecticide/pesticide called â€Å"Neonicotinoids†, a concoction of various chemical products, used by various large corporate manufacturers and is a chemical that has been among the most widely used pesticide because of its supposedly harmless effect. Countries including South Africa are amongst their many users. Another theory that contributes to the to the increase of Colony collapse Disorder and pollinator decline is the fact that there are more Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO), simply bees love pollen and the theory is that hese modified pollens are detrimental to creatures such as bees. New Genetically Modified crops have now been designed to be immune to any pesticides or insecticides, this resulting in an increase in the usage of these chemicals. Genetic modification of a plant in turn leads to the genetic modification of that flowers pollen, when this pollen becomes genetically modified, the bees then go malnourished because th ere are no longer enough nutrients in the modified pollen for the bees to feed off. Bees then die of illness due to the lack of nutrients and die of diseases, mostly in the digestive system, due to hard material, in the digestive tract system, that has been ingested from Genetically Modified pollen. It has been proven that if a bee visits Genetically Modified Organisms, that bee will have severe digestive problems and this can result in death. As well as these GMO’s, disease is also a proposed problem within the bee colonies, there are certain mites that are known to spread disease amongst the bee population. Although this is a major concern and contributory factor of colony decline, many beekeepers have pointed out that due to the rapid decline in bee colonies, this cannot be targeted as the main cause. With regards to Horticulture, pollinator decline causes many potential implications. Horticulture and many garden plants need the process of pollination and if they do not receive this pollination they will no longer produce seeds or fruit. However, the public can help by not using detrimental pesticides/insecticides and can plant flowers that bees like and are attracted to. Humans benefit from the relationship between plants and bees because as a result, this mutualism produces a variety of fruits and vegetables that are vital for our survival. When you walk into a grocery store there is a wide variety of fruits and vegetables to choose from that have benefitted from the relationship between these two organisms. Without the help of bees you would not see the vast varieties of fruit, such as apples, that are available in South Africa, for example, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Pink Lady and Royal Gala are a few of many different types of apples that are available on our stores and are always in constant supply. This constant supply of fresh produce is achieved by bees. When a Honeybee finds an apple tree that is in flower, the bee will remain on the same tree in order to collect as much nectar and pollen as possible. It has been discovered that cross-pollination occurs when bees move from one tree to another. If some of the Honeybees in a hive are visiting a certain variety apple tree and others are visiting a different variety, there is a good chance that both types of pollen will be on the bodies of most of the bees in the hive. Cross-pollination can occur when a honeybee has obtained pollen on its body from another bee visiting a different variety of apple tree flower, for example when a honeybee that has Red Delicious pollen on its body, which it obtained from other bees in the hive, is visiting Granny Smith apple flowers, the Red Delicious pollen will be deposited on the first few of the Granny Smith flowers visited and those flowers will have a good chance of becoming apples. Pollen must be transferred from one flower to another to ensure that the plant will produce fruit and seeds so that new plants can be produced. This shows how bees and plants benefit from each other and how as a result of their mutualism, plants can mature and grow. As a result of this pollinator decline, there are very harmful implications on the countries agriculture. Although food resources that are in the grass family are pollinated by the breezes and do not require insect pollination, most root or above ground crops rely on pollination to mature and can only be harvested once they have been through the process of pollination. If this process were to disappear, by pollinator decline, these plants would not be able to grow and produce fruit, vegetables, nuts or seeds, therefore this decline of bees will result in the decline of worthy agriculture and will put an end to the countries constant supply of fresh produce. It is imperative to have this supply of fresh produce as one gain nutrients and minerals that are essential for survival. This will be a national and global effect. Another distressing fact is that the crop production industry in the Western Cape relies on approximately 90% of the total number of managed colonies to provide the pollination that is required to produce enough crops that are on demand. This means that in order to receive the most essential food sources, society relies on a large number of pollinated fruits and vegetables, which in turn indicates that the food we put into our mouths daily relies on a large number of bees doing their job. In addition to agricultural effects of pollinator decline, this decline also has many implications on South African Economy. Since the late 18th century the Western Cape region in South Africa has been famous for its wine, brandy and fruits and exports, these products around the globe. With over 100ha of cultivated vines, the Western Cape region has been labelled the ninth largest exporter of wine in the world and is also well known for its fruit and fruit related products. Ceres fruit juice originated in the town of Ceres in the Western Cape and is now a major exporter of fruit juices around the globe and especially to North America, Europe and Asia. In addition to Ceres fruit juices, Appletiser, a popular sparkling fruit juice sold nation and global wide, originated from all production is based in the town of Elign in Western Cape. This shows that still dominating exporting industries in the Western Cape, with just over 47% of all products being exported being agricultural products. South Africa’s largest export markets continue to be European countries. This agricultural exporting industry produces income of roughly 21. 5 million Rands annually which in turn provides many South Africans with employment and steady income. Pollinators are the sole providers for this income and are vital in order for fruit trees and vineyards to develop and grow because without pollination there would be a major agricultural as well as an economical loss that would put or food resources in short supply and leave many South Africans unemployed. A world without bees would have a catastrophic impact on the world as we know it today. Without these vital pollinators, agriculture, biodiversity and the world’s agricultural economy would cease to exist.

Based on your own holistic assessment of a child who has difficulty Essay Example

Based on your own holistic assessment of a child who has difficulty Essay Example Based on your own holistic assessment of a child who has difficulty Essay Based on your own holistic assessment of a child who has difficulty Essay This assignment is centred on a 3 twelvemonth old male child, Martin who is exhibiting behaviors unacceptable to his chief carer. The individualities of the household and other personal inside informations have been changed for the intent of this assignment to keep namelessness. This assignment will show how to set up and farther develop a loving and nurturing relationship. It will clearly place the importance of the positive relationships for all kids within their first old ages of life and how these are formed through bonding and fond regard. This piece of work will discourse the principals of humanistic psychological science and depict the societal acquisition theory, it will demo how Martin`s behaviours relate to these theories. It will place the importance of the professional/parent relationships and barriers which may impact these relationships. The assignment will place what a holistic appraisal is, its relevancy and importance, and will place the possible grounds for Martin`s behavior. Schemes will be examined to back up his female parent to implement positive parenting manners, measuring these manners, and the demand for consistence to promote positive behaviors. The procedure of attachment develops between two people and is enhanced by reciprocality. It is a societal relationship which develops between kid and grownup as portion of the security cementing the feelings of security towards each other. Lorenz ( 1950 ) investigated why babe animate beings bonded with their female parents so rapidly after birth, he found that freshly hatched ducklings imprint on the first thing they see and follow that figure as if it were their female parent, Lorenz suggested that there was a sensitive period during a goslings life where it would `fix` on any moving figure . This sensitive period was instantly after the birth. Bowlby ( 1969 ) further developed this theory, his decisions lead to the theory that there is besides a sensitive period in a humans life, and if bonding and attachment doesn`t take topographic point within the first old ages so the kid will happen trouble organizing relationships in ulterior life. He stated that, even good mothering is a bout useless if delayed until after the age of two and a half old ages ( Bowlby 1969 ) . Bowlby argued against Lorenz s theory in that worlds have a demand for a two manner fond regard, different from that of ducks but there was a sort of human imprinting, ( Lunt and Sylva,1995 p.33 ) a sensitive period and a demand to repair on one individual and remain fixed. Bowlby ( 1969 ) besides discovered that human babes are attracted to the sight and sound of worlds instead than other objects and noises ( Lunt and Sylva,1995 p.45 ) . He besides stated that an fond regard can non be formed after the age of two old ages six months nevertheless Tizard ( 1977 ) argued that kids could organize fond regards in subsequently childhood but resulted in aggressive, perchance juvenile delinquency in adolescent old ages and early maturity. In the survey by Anna Freud ( 1950 ) of the orphaned Bull Dog Banks kids she concluded that kids can develop fond regards without a female parent or male parent figure and even without a consistent grownup The kids faired laudably by protecting and caring for each other ( Lunt and Sylva 1995 p.14 ) . These kids grew strong fond regards with each other and became to a great extent reliant on each other for security. However no information is known about any earlier bonding or fond regard with birth parents, which is a defect in this research. Later in life they did get down to organize fond regards with grownups. This research was inconclusive as no farther grounds was available in the kids s later lives to turn out once and for all that the absence of a female parent fond regard is important for ulterior emotional stableness. Harlow ( 1958 ) in his survey of the Rhesus Monkeys argued that if the initial bond and, comfort, reassurance, touch, stableness and reciprotical love is non present so socialisation with others is hard, as is copulating, and mothering of their ain progeny later in life. Shafer and Emerson ( 1962 ) found that most babies formed fond regards to several people, related through blood ties or non, and by the age of 18 months babies have formed many fond regards. These fond regards are based on the quality of the interaction. Babies whose female parents play a batch with them, and give them plentifulness of stimulation and undivided attending, develop stronger fond regards ( Lunt and Sylva,1995 p.49 ) . An attachment develops for endurance intents, the forming of this attachment possibly hard for a assortment of grounds including, prematureness, birth troubles, depression, or hapless childhood experiences. The fond regard of an baby can be judged by the babes reaction to being separated from the grownup. Ainsworth ( 1978 ) suggested that separation shows in different signifiers, the kid may be avoidant, ambivalent or disorganised and disorientated, she suggested that this may attest and demo that fond regards are either secure or insecure with the chief health professional. Each kid reacts otherwise to being separated from their parents but all follow a form of protest, desperation and so withdrawal, this reflects a kid with a positive strong fond regard. Adhering takes topographic point instantly after or within hours of birth, this bond iniates a procedure called fond regard which so starts to develop. This bond is established between a parent and baby, it encompasses the strong feelings of love and attention that a female parent or male parent feels toward a kid ( Andrews, Murray, 2005.p.2 ) . This early bond is important for babes and is seen as indispensable for them to be able to develop positive fond regards later in life ( Beresford, 2010. p. 4 ) . Infant massage meets the of import elements that support attachment it involves high degrees of oculus contact, skin contact, voicing, babe cues and The `dance `of acquisition closely about one another ( McClure, 2004. p.50 ) . Infant massage allows parent and kid to be in sync with one another. If bonding or the oncoming of fond regard has been delayed due to separation of the parent and kid, massage can assist to set up fond regard which McClure ( 2004 ) grounds is neer excessiv ely late. An insecure fond regard leads to troubles in maturity, managing feelings good, and these can be passed on when a parent finds it difficult to react adequately to their babes. Attachment is necessary for the model constitution of emotional security. The absence of this can take to low ego regard and an incapacity to cover with life`s challenges. ( Gerhardt 2004 p.24 ) St. martins parents were both portion of his early experiences in his early months and old ages. They were every bit antiphonal to Martin, with sensitiveness and consistence, run intoing his basic psychological demands every bit good as his emotional and developmental demands. Maslow ( 1954 ) Humanistic attack suggests that all worlds have complex demands that need to be met, get downing with physiological demands, the order is hierarchal and each degree needs to be met before a move can be made upward to self actualising ( see appendix 1 ) . This work was seen as A unsmooth on the job generalization about most people in most state of affairss, but it is non truly adequate as an account of human motive ( Haynes, 1994 p.435 ) . Erikson ( 1968 ) states that All of life is a series of challenges that must be overcome in order for us to be at easiness with ourselves but non that each challenge would necessitate to be satisfied before undertaking another, nevertheless back uping Masl ow trigon that everyone needs to make their possible. Rogers ( 1961 ) argues against Maslow and proposes that there are two cardinal human demands, positive respect, to be loved and respected by another, and secondly, self- realization. Both are basic demands, and these could non be left unrealized without psychological injury to a individual ( Haynes.1994 p.436 ) . Social larning theory is an attack that is believed to back up kid develop through kids larning from other people around them, copying and patterning behaviors on others. Learning takes topographic point through our interactions with the environment. Feelingss do non do behavior, it is the environment and stimulation that do ( Beresford, 2010 p. 2 ) . Our experiences act upon how we are now and we will be in the hereafter. Everyone has familial sensitivities towards certain sorts of behavior, it is our experiences which will impact how those inclinations manifest themselves ( Haynes, 1994 p.728 ) . Imitation helps a kid gather information and learn whole forms of behavior. A Freudian theory is that a kid will place with the parent of the same sex as themselves a construct of designation, taking on that individual s individuality and modeling from them, it is a elusive manner in which a immature kid absorbs or assimilates the features of another individual without any direct ins truction or acquisition ( Lunt and Sylva, 1995 p181 ) . Children are driven by attending and wagess and will more readily copy person they see rewarded for a behavior or their actions ( Bandura 1969 ) . Children identify with others, they see some people as being like themselves and others as different, they may move in the same manner they see the other individual moving and so identifying with them, peculiarly people near to them. As kids move through the phases of development ( see appendix 2 ) they develop an apprehension of how the head works, what they can and ca nt make ( their restrictions ) and how the memory works. Children learn to construe other people s behavior and predict what may be traveling on in person else s head, this forms their determinations for their interactions with that individual, This type of societal knowledge is an of import acquisition mechanism for the kid as it learns to set its ain behavior to socially acceptable norms and values ( Haynes, 1994 p.729 ) . Bandura ( 1963 ) Bobo doll experiment found that kids who observed aggressive behavior, imitated the actions, These experiments have shown the power of acquisition by imitation ( Lunt and Sylva,1995 p.176 ) . Martin is showing he has learnt behaviors from his male parent, he has identified with him as a male function theoretical account, The effect of his behavior is that he receives his female parents attending, this he i nterprets as a wages. A holistic appraisal is an information assemblage tool, it gives a full image of the whole household, and their set of fortunes ( see appendix 3 ) . The intent of an appraisal is to understand what has go oning within a household unit to utilize this as a usher for any future planning ( Brandon, 2008.p.240 ) . Parents are the experts of their ain kids, they are`in tune` with them. The holistic attack shows to the parent that they are valued and that the professionals personal values and opinions are non being used. This supports the mutual parent/professional relationship ( Fahlberg, 2008. p.228 ) . Taking inside informations of the past history may supply hints or place events in a child`s life that have some bearing on the presenting troubles within the household. In Martin`s household it identified that his male parent had been a function theoretical account of aggressive behavior and, there had been a recent household separation, taking to Martin losing one of his chief carers, one he had most attached to and identified with. A holistic appraisal will place how the parent perceives the kid, and frailty versa, the parents and child`s strengths every bit good as failings. Fahlberg ( 2008 ) states that a good instance program makes usage of a child`s strengths to turn to demands and overcome failings ( Fahlberg 2008.p.227 ) . Martin s holistic appraisal does non offer chance to discourse his positive properties ; it focuses on jobs and concerns and gives the feeling of overall negativeness. Fahlberg ( 2008 ) suggests that it is indispensable for a parent to experience optimistic and confident to alter behaviors to concentrate on the kid s strengths. To obtain a full image of the household and fortunes all professionals working with or antecedently known to the household should be contacted. Brandon et Al ( 1999 ) suggests that without this information garnering detailing family/professional battle and services delivered an accurate appraisal can non be mad e ( Brandon et al 1999.p.177 ) . Parents will prosecute with professionals they feel comfy with, those willing to offer clip and construct up a rapour and trust, be respectful and non judgemental. Knowing what to anticipate when nearing households can be really re-assuring to them ( Aldgate, Cleaver, Unwell 2009. p.102 ) . By successfully finishing an appraisal it will place an action program to work on to positively alter the troubles for the kid and carers. It will besides mend relationships, support ego regard and assurance edifice in the kid so back uping them to run into their possible, as Maslow ( 1969 ) suggests self actualise. A kid entirely does non do a job, person has to comprehend or see the actions as a job ( Beresford, 2010.p.1 ) . Martin`s female parent did comprehend his behavior as debatable, and needed schemes to use to work towards changes his behavior. A full household appraisal affecting farther multi bureau work and intercessions help to place other possible experiences that possibly indexs to Martin`s behavior ( O`Rouke, 2005 p.2 ) . These may include external environmental issues including, mental wellness, lodging, poorness or substance abuse. Without a deeper appraisal premises could be made but would be damaging. Aldgate et Al ( 2009 ) suggests Comprehensive and holistic appraisals which place equal accent on the kid, household and environment, are indispensable. ( Aldgate et Al, 2009.P.99 ) . However parents may be fearful of uncovering their jobs as it may take to punitory reactions by professionals, so may non give permission for revelation of information by other bureaus or may non be true ( Aldgate et Al, 2009.p.100 ) . The ABC scheme of behaviour direction includes detecting the child`s behavior, placing the ancestors, which include where the kid is, who the kid is with, what clip of twenty-four hours the behavior occur, an accurate description of precisely what the behavior is, what is said or done, and to whom. Consequences of the behavior so necessitate to be observed, the events that instantly follow, the wagess given to the kid to excuse the behavior and reinforce ( see appendix 4 ) . The child`s single developmental cognitive ability demands to be considered when formulising a program, every bit good as the parents cognitive ability degree ( see appendix 5 ) . If these are non assessed and the parent non engaged in the procedure there will be no ownership and it is likely to neglect ( Phelan,2003.p.2-3 ) . Skinner ( 1983 ) states that through Law of Effect acquisition occurs as a consequence of positive, or negative support. However Jenner ( 1999 ) provinces when you receive something you like after a behavior you are more likely to reiterate it, when something you like is withdrawn as a consequence of behavior you are less likely to make it once more ( Jenner, 1999.p.171 ) . Martin received attending from his female parent and, got his ain manner. The attending received may non hold been positive but the consequence was, in his position, a wages. It is indispensable to affect parents, to go at their gait and be considerate to environmental and any physical prohibitors. The program should include clearly identified ends, be accomplishable, mensurable and clip limited, re-evaluation and flexibleness besides need to be taken into history, as fortunes and other factors may alter for the kid. Jenner ( 1999 ) states that consistence is important and, Accurate timing ensures that your impact on your child`s behavior is every bit powerful as possible ( Jenner. 1999 p.169 ) . This assignment has set out the cardinal principals of adhering an fond regard and the importance of bonding and secure fond regards for kids. It has identified the acquisition that takes topographic point between babe and parent and how reacting to each other physiques an everlasting trusting relationship. It has identified the importance of this procedure to develop a secure fond regard and that without this a kid may non accomplish their possible. It has discussed the cardinal principals of humanistic psychological science and the societal acquisition theory. Highlighted with Martin copying his male parent taking to unwanted behavior. This assignment stresses the importance of a through holistic appraisal, farther professional communicating between bureaus, which so for allows the most effectual working partnerships between professionals and parents. The ABC theoretical account of behaviour direction has been discussed and has identified how it can be used with the parent s battle to alter behaviors. Suzanne was portion of this procedure and she recognised who the function theoretical account and been for Martin, the ancestors and effects and was so able to implement alterations she felt necessary. Free Essays on Arts And Science Of Teaching

Teaching: Is it an art, or is it a science? I think that teaching requires both art and science. They both play a role on each other, because if a teacher only demonstrates one of these types of teaching, their classroom will most likely be very boring. Teaching as an art demonstrates ways in which the teacher may use creative ways to present the material so it is fun and interesting for his or her students. Some examples are games, â€Å"hands-on† activities, and/ or movies relating to the topics being covered. In The First Year, Genevieve DeBose gave disposable cameras to her students for a†getting to know each other† activity. The point of this activity was for her students to be creative and learn about their peers. During this activity Genevieve also learned about her students, like their attitudes toward participating and some of their social skills. She could use what she learned from this activity to help plan her lessons. I agree with Gilbert Highet, who a rgues that in â€Å"The Art of Teaching that successful teaching must be considered an art because it involves two things that cannot be objectively and systematically manipulated: emotions and values.† (Pg 11) I feel emotions play a main role in teaching because the emotion that is being expressed by the teacher will be reflected on his or her students. Knowledge Management at Tata Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Knowledge Management at Tata - Essay Example This paper highlights that KM is a vital aspect of organisational development, especially because of the large quantities of information generated in the modern organisational environment and the growing importance of information. Information is currently the most powerful asset in contemporary management. It must be managed and developed well for maximum benefits to be derived from it. Tata followed three recommended steps in any pioneering any knowledge management program. First, it sought out and brought together employees with specialisations in different practices but who had no experience in implementing knowledge management. This was the most important step in the process because the company had no KM history. It had never had a KM culture before, and a major shift was required to make the initiative a success. Consequently, it would have been pointless for the company to go attempt to implement KM processes (collection, organisation, development, sharing, and usage) without a solid foundation on which to base those activities. By adopting a bottom-up strategy to KM, Tata ensured that both effectiveness and sustainability were built into the blueprint. In the case study, it is stated that the company felt that its initiatives gravitated towards a cultural transformation instead of a project.

Root Metaphors in Understanding Organisational Behavior Essay

Root Metaphors in Understanding Organisational Behavior - Essay Example Metaphors give a clearer understanding of the paradoxical and complex characteristics of organizational behavior. Some of the metaphors that have been used over time in reference to organizational behavior include organism, culture, machine and political systems. This paper will analyze some of the root metaphors that have been used to describe organizations. Organizations as Cultures Culture refers to a way of a people hence organizational culture denotes a pattern of basic assumptions adopted within a group. These assumptions act like the norm and any new member has to learn them (Phegan, 1996: pp. 25). These norms govern the interaction of people within an organization and the working relationship with those outside the organization. They define conduct for various situations (Parker, 2000, p.56). In analyzing organizations as cultures, the Hofstede’s cultural dimensions theory proposes that organizations adopt a culture as determined by the region they are located in (Hofs tede, 1991, p. 43). Organizational culture varies from one nation to another. An awareness of multiculturism is important for any organization. For instance, if an organization based in Britain chooses to extend its operations to the Arab nations, then it has to take into consideration the aspect of religion that is an important part of the lives of the Arabians. Hence, the organization will adjust its culture to accommodate its Arabian employees. According to Hofstede (1980, p. 67), national and regional cultural groupings affect organizational behavior. Different analysts have described organizational culture in various ways. Deal and Kennedy have four cultures (Deal and Kennedy, 1982, p.34). The ‘work-hard, play hard’ culture is one where the members of an organization put a lot of time into their work to be among the best. Such organizations are result oriented. Organizations like restaurants have adopted such a culture. The ‘tough guy macho’ culture is a high risk and reward oriented culture. In addition to this, such organizations focus on the present rather than long term goals. An example of this would be the police force. Process culture works for low risk and slow feedback oriented organizations. These organizations, observe a lot of bureaucracy. Banks and insurance companies fall into this category. Lastly, ‘bet-the-company’ culture is common with organizations that are involved in high risk business that gives slow feedback (Hartnell et al. 2011, p. 12). A lot of planning and work is put into the realization of goals. Oil companies and aircraft manufactures are some of the organizations with such a culture. An organization’s culture determines its output as pointed out by Denison et al. (2004, p. 98-109). A strong culture is one where the staff aligns themselves to the norms and lives up to the expectations. In such cultures, work progresses smoothly and the organization easily realizes its goals and ob jectives. Furthermore, a strong culture organization benefits in that the employees have high motivation (O’ Reilley et al., 2006: p. 487). Moreover, organizational culture increases team cohesiveness. Different departments and divisions within the company closely work together. This fosters harmony. This in turn promotes consistency. The staff finds their niche and can easily coordinate their activities. Once they adopt the norms, they know what is expected of them and work effortlessly in keeping up with the norms. Hence, it also shapes

YOU NEED GIVE A TITLE FOR IT Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

YOU NEED GIVE A TITLE FOR IT - Essay Example The paper will focus on brief explanation of international theories such as realism, Marxism, liberalism, internationalization and constructivism. A case study of Referendum in Scotland will be provided, and explain its effects on the political, social and economic status of these countries. Finally, the paper will focus on how political, Economic, Social and Technological (PEST) factors affect the international business. They will be analysed alongside the mentioned international relations theories. In international relations, realism is a complex ideology that refers to a number of important issues. Firstly, it refers to political and economic egocentric tendencies, where states seek to protect their personal interests (Scott, 2003). There is an assumption that there is no international government, hence protecting the sovereignty of nations (Grosse & Behrman, 1994). The realism theory indicates that the failure to subscribe to an international government can be viewed as a state of ‘anarchy’ but it is imperative the pursuit of state’s interests (Devetak, Burke & George, 2013). The presence of an international government can undermine the autonomy and sovereignty of other nations (Buzan & Little, 2003). Under realism ideology, every country, no matter how powerful or inferior it seems, is out to protect its political, social, and economic interests at all costs. In general, realism theory is characterised by power politics, where conflict is also common (Sc ott, 2003). However, conflicts are managed, and when it escalates, diplomacy is perceived to be the best tool. Under realism, the universal moral standards are not always recognizing in every state. Different moral standards and laws will be established depending on the interests a country is trying to pursue. While there is an assumption that all humans are

The Level Of Education System Between India

The Level Of Education System Between India The project provides valuable information on the research work undertaken on the subject To know the difference between the level of education system between UK and India as a part of country report work during semester abroad programme (SAP). The research was conducted on the basis of primary data and secondary data. A questionnaire was structured to obtain desired information. With the sample size of 50 personal interviews was conducted in Student mansion and Birkeck University to know what perspective do the Indian students have towards the education level of both India as well as UK and a basic secondary research was undertaken to understand the education level of both India as well as UK. The data collected was tabulated, analyzed and then followed by findings and recommendations. The study suggested that although the study material is the same in both the countries but the pattern of teaching differs. Thus the Indian students who come to UK to study has an opinion that the stud ies conducted here are more practical based and gives them a greater insight and understanding. INTRODUCTION This report pertains to the country report which was a part of the Semester abroad proramme (SAP) provided by Amity London Business School. The basic purpose of this country report is to provide students with an exposure of analyzing the country, to identify variations in both the countries that is in India and UK and thus choosing a topic of their interest in order to conduct a research. With the help of this country report students develop different skills in terms of creative thinking, communication skills, behavioral skills, technical skills, interpersonal skills, etc. thus the institute has provided students to do a country report. The country report was conducted on to know the difference between the education system between India and UK. The word education has arrived from the world educere which means to bring about what is already in. As Swami Vivekananda said, Education is the manifestation of perfection, already present in man. The basic purpose of education is to notice talent proactively and the purpose of school education is to guide the childs discovery of himself, to identify and nurture his potential to the fullest. Teachers must perceive children as seeds to be nurtured and not as clay to be molded. They must act as gardeners and not as potters. This attitude must be change and if it does so would the education system. It is very essential that education should be based on application and intelligence instead of trying to test the memory of knowledge. Memory doesnt have much relevance in todays times given the volume of information which is available on the internet. It is the application of information that matters and to be tested. Students must be taught the difference between being wise and being knowledgeable; being well informed and being intelligent. People must be cautious of Information pollution which comes along with globalization and which often blurs the difference between knowledge and wisdom. The education system must encourage the students to imagine and invent and not reinvent the same wheel. Each students imagination is different and, therefore, he has to be guided correctly to choose his occupation in life. There is no denying in the fact that a person who has found his vocation in life is a blessed human being. Education in India: A superior education system is of primary importance to a nation and for a nation like India which is growing, it is of great importance to reflect on our present education system and incorporate sustainable changes in it, to make it compatible with the global dynamism. The education which is been provided in India is via Public sector and Private Sector, which is been controlled and funded by three levels i.e. the central, state and Local. The University of Nalanda is the oldest system of education in the world. Majority of the universities in India are been controlled by the Union and the state government. Western education became more embedded into Indian society with the establishment of the British Raj. India has made a great progress in terms of increasing the primary education attendance rate and thus has expanded the literacy rate to approximately two third of the population. As the education has enhanced in India this has led to an increase in the economic rise in India. The private education in India constitutes to just 5% although in terms of value estimated is $40 billion in 2008 and which will increase to $68 $70 billion by 2012. Though the education system of India has improved still 25% of the population is illiterate in India, 15% who make it to high school, graduate. Indias post secondary education offers only 7% of Indias age population. 25% of the seats are vacant nationwide and 57% of the college professors lack either a masters or PhD degree. Indias higher education is the 2nd largest after the United States. The main governing body at the tertiary level is the (UGC) i.e. University grants commission which helps in maintaining the standard, advices the government and it helps in the coordination between the centre and the state. The Indian education system has expanded at a very vast and a quick pace by adding 20,000 colleges and more than 8 million students in a decade from 2000 01 to 2010 11. As of 20122, India has over 42 central universities, 275 state universities, 130 deemed universities, 90 private universities, 5 institutions established and functioning under the state Act and 33 institutes of national importance. Other institutions include 33,000 colleges at government degree colleges and private degree colleges. The system of Education in India is highly similar to that of the Anglo Sazon countries. The following are the stages: Nursery Primary Class ( 1 to class 5) Secondary ( class 6 to class 10) Senior Secondary (class 11 Class 12) Graduation (Arts and commerce 3 years, professional 4 years, Medical 5 years) Post graduation (1/2 3 years) The present scenario of the Indian Education system: The present Indian educational system is the implantation of the British rules. Today India is said to be the communication hub and hence it has become very popular with the international students from all around the world. The Indian education has become highly attractive because of its forward thinking, its popularity with large multinational companies, and also because of English being the most common language of communication. According to Peter Ducker, India has become a super power house very fast, the medical school in Delhi is now said to be perhaps the best in the world. The technical graduates of the Indian institute of technology, Bangalore are as good as any in the world. Also India has 150 million people for whom English is the main language so indeed India is becoming a knowledge center. Education In UK: Education in UK is a devolved matter with all of the countries of UK having separate systems under separate governments: that is the UK government is responsible for England, and the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government and the Northern Ireland Executive are responsible for Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, respectively. UK offers an inclusive range of academic and vocational qualifications in virtually all field and subject for students of all stages and ages of their education. A wide range of institutions or universities in Uk offers courses in each level from schools, colleges and higher education. In all the levels other than the primary education students can choose to study towards the wide variety of different qualifications. Education in UK is mandatory for everyone between the ages of 5 and 16 and it is been provided by 2 kinds of schools: state 0 funded schools and independent/ fee charging schools. In the highly competitive global economy the educational performance of the UK population is below the standard of the best performing OECD countries. This is reflected in the UKs relatively low secondary school completion rates. It is because of the current situation of the secondary school system has led to the creation of new diplomas to provide young students with alternative routes into continuing education and work. In higher education sphere there are 169 British Universities offering world class studies to 2.4 million young people, around 1 in 8 of whom comes from overseas .The UK is the second largest provider of higher education for international students. OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY: The study has been conducted with the following objectives in mind: To know the opinion of Indian students studying in the UK on education system of UK and India. Which education system provides with greater insight and understanding. To identify which education system will provides with more practical knowledge. Which education system provides with greater value and opportunities for future? PROBLEM STATEMENT: To analyze the difference of management education system between India and UK METHODOLOGY: METHODOLOGY: The study was undertaken by using both primary and secondary data. Primary data was collected with the help of a structured questionnaire which was personally canvassed. Sample Size: The sample size of 50 has been collected in which there will be a structured questionnaire and sample of 5 has been chosen for qualitative survey. The study requires and in depth survey so as to know the insight of the students regarding the education system in both the countries. PRIMARY RESEARCH: Primary research was undertaken by doing a survey of 50 International students. A structured questionnaire was prepared on questions relating to education system in UK and India. Graphical representation of the survey Which countries teaching do you prefer? Country Frequency Calculate Percentage India 22 22*100/50 44% UK 28 28*100/50 56% Analysis: The project was undertaken to analyze the opinion of Indian students towards the education system of UK and India with a sample size of 50 students, the respondents were asked which country classroom teaching do they prefer? 22 out of 50 responded India i.e. 44%. And 28 out of 50 responded UK i.e. 56%. Therefore from the above analysis it is clear that the Indian students who have experienced the education system of both the countries that is UK and India prefer UK teaching methodology. Which education system provides you with greater practical knowledge? Country Frequency Calculate Percentage India 15 15*100/50 30% UK 35 35*100/50 70% Analysis: Since out of 50 sample size chosen, 15 out of 50 i.e. 30% responded that Indian education provides then with less practical knowledge and 35 out of 50 i.e. 70% responded that UK education provides them with greater practical knowledge. Therefore from the above analysis it is clear that the education in UK is more practical based and provides students with more insight and understanding about the topic which will help the students in the competitive world in the near future after the completion of their course. 2.1) If UK, why do you find this education system more practical based? FREQUENCY More of industrial visits 29 Class room based activity 12 Primary research assignment 17 Role plays 20 Others 7 Analysis: In the above (2) question when asked which education provides you with greater practical knowledge 70% students responded UK. When asked why they find UK education system more practical based. Out of 50 students, 29 students responded there are more of industrial visits, 12 responded because of class room based activity, 17 responded because of primary research assignment, 20 responded because of role plays. Therefore from the above analysis it is clear that maximum students who find UK education more practical based is because there are more number of industrial visits, primary research assignments, classroom based activity etc. 2.2) If India , why do you find this education system more practical based? FREQUENCY More of industrial visits 14 Class room based activity 12 Primary research assignment 7 Role plays 28 Others 19 Analysis: In the above (2) question when asked which education provides you with greater practical knowledge 30% students responded India. When asked why they find Indian education system more practical based. Out of 50 students, 14 students responded there are more of industrial visits, 12 responded because of class room based activity, 7 responded because of primary research assignment, 28 responded because of role plays. Therefore from the above analysis it is clear that in India there is not much of practical based studies for students. There is less number of field trips, primary research assignments and classroom based activity. What according to you should India adapt from UK teaching? FREQUENCY Openness 27 Citing practical examples 35 Improvement in technological advancement 22 Others 13 Analysis: Out of the 50 students surveyed, when asked what should India adapt from UK classroom teaching, 27 students responded openness in terms of interaction with the faculty, asking them questions etc. 35 students responded that the faculty in India should cite more of practical examples rather than bookish knowledge.22 students responded that there should be improvement in the technology .and 13 students responded others. How far is India lagging behind in comparison to UK in terms of use of technology? FREQUENCY CALCULATE PERCENTAGE Very Much 18 18*100/50 36% Not so much 25 25*100/50 50% Not at all 7 7*100/50 14% Analysis: since out of the 50 sample size chosen, when students were asked does India lag behind in terms of technology 18 out of 50 i.e. 36% responded very much, 25 out of 50 i.e. 50 % responded not so much and 7 out of 50 i.e. 14% responded not at all. Therefore from the above analysis it is clear that India requires improvement in technology. Which education system is more liberal in teaching? Country Frequency Calculate Percentage India 15 15*100/50 30% UK 35 35*100/50 70% Analysis: Out of the sample size of 50, when students were asked which education system they find more liberal, 15 out of 50 i.e. 30% responded India and 35 out of 50 i.e. 70% responded UK. Therefore from the above analysis it is clear that UK is more liberal in its attitude as compared to India. Which education system do you find more exam oriented? Country Frequency Calculate Percentage Indian education system 31 31*50/100 63% UK education system 29 29*50/100 37% Analysis: Out of the sample size of 50, when asked which education system you find more exams oriented? 31 out of 50 i.e. 63% responded that Indian education system is exam oriented and rest 29 out of 50 i.e. 37% responded that UK education system is less exam oriented. Therefore from the above analysis it states that because of the pressure from the faculty and parents or to get a good placement in future marks are essential and hence a lot of importance is given to exams in India where as on the other hand in UK they focus more on understanding of the subject rather than cramming up on the topic and writing in the exam. In which country do you get more acknowledgement and respect to your views and opinions? Country Frequency Calculate Percentage India 11 11*100/50 21% UK 39 39*100/50 79% Analysis: from the survey conducted, when students were asked in which country you find more comfortable to express your views and opinions? 11 out of 50 i.e. 21% students responded in India and 39 out of 50 i.e. 79% responded in UK. Hence from the above analysis it states that students find it more comfortable to express their views and ideas in UK. An idea or opinion which is been stated by a particular student is appreciated as people here are more open to ideas and are not conservative. Which country provides you with greater opportunities for future? Country Frequency Calculate Percentage India 33 33*100/50 66% UK 17 17*100/50 34% Analysis: From the survey conducted, when the students were surveyed which country provides them with greater opportunities for future 33 out of 50 responded India and 17 out of 50 responded UK. Comparing Boys and Girls by Alice Munro and A Clean Well-Lighted Place by Hemingway :: comparison compare contrast essays

Importance of Foils in Boys and Girls and A Clean Well-Lighted Place A Handbook to Literature says that the word "foil" literally means a "leaf" or a sheet "of bright metal placed under a piece of jewelry to increase its brilliance" ("Foil"). Thus when applied to literature, the term refers to "a character who makes a contrast with another, especially a minor character who helps set off a major character" (Barnett et al. 1331). For example, a foolish character may place a wise character's wisdom in a stronger light, or a cowardly character may make the hero's actions appear even more courageous. A foil is frequently an antagonist or confidant, but whoever the foil might be, the purpose is to illuminate one or more significant traits, attitudes or actions of a main character ("Foil" NTCE). In the story, '"A Clean Well-Lighted Place," by Ernest Hemingway, the younger waiter is a foil for both the older waiter and the old man who comes to drink in the café. The older waiter is concerned for the old man who has tried to kill himself. He understands that there are many lonely people who need a safe, well-lighted place to escape loneliness at night. The older waiter makes the comment near the end of the story that "each night I am reluctant to close up because there may be someone who needs the café" (1172). The older waiter is sympathetic to the old man because he himself is lonely. He confesses that " I am of those who like to stay late at the café, with all those who need a light for the night" (1172). On the other hand, the younger waiter has a wife to go home to and is irritated at the old man because he will not leave. He even says to the old man, who is deaf, "You should have killed yourself last week" (1170). This cruel remark contrasts sharply with the older waiter's characteristics of compassion, friendliness, and tolerance. In the story, " Boys and Girls," by Alice Munro, Laird is the foil for his sister, the narrator of the story. When the children are young, Laird's behavior contrasts with the maturity and responsibility shown by the girl. While she is busy watering the foxes, he goes off and swings "himself sick . . . going around in circles" or tries to catch caterpillars (987).
